My daughter was out with friends one night and came home with instructions, “You have to make this drink I had!” It was like a lemon drop martini but with lavender infused vodka. That was sometime this past winter and I wasn’t inclined to make that effort until summer when I thought it just seemed most appropriate; mostly because I grow a bunch of lavender and wanted to use my own.
I thought at first of infusing vodka with the lavender but it was oh so much easier to just make a lavender sugar syrup for the lemonade and add a shot of vodka. So easy, so refreshing…really, really good (can you TELL I liked it!).
I’ve hesitated many years to cut from my one and only lavender bush, so in the past couple of years I planted several more and while they get to good size and I can harvest from them too…this baby has gotten so big I can cut away and hardly notice! I’ve used it for a bouquet on my kitchen table/office desk, use it for sachets, am right now making lavender shortbread and am also sending some bunches to friends. I love the flowers but part of the real beauty is the wonderful herbacious scent and I’m finding more and more ways to use it in a culinary style. If you haven’t seen my Lemon Ricotta Pizza with Caramelized Onions and Herbs…run, don’t walk there if you like this match; it is to die for!
I think the secret for good lemonade is to make sugar water to blend with the lemon juice, so it was a perfect fit for infusing the water with the lavender. You should use culinary lavender; either your own or from a vendor. It’s not suitable for lavender put into sachets for scenting a room; I just would not entrust that to a food or drink product. Sage Creations is a Colorado farm in Palisades that grows stone fruits and lavender for culinary uses if you can’t find any locally.
Lavender Lemonade Martini
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 6-8 sprigs of lavender
- sugar for rimming
- Vodka, preferably chilled
- lemon slices and lavender sprigs for garnish (optional)
Preparation
- Add sugar to water in pot on stove and bring to boil; cook only until sugar is dissolved. Add lavender sprigs and allow to cool completely.
- Put lemon juice in pitcher and strain lavender/sugar water into same pitcher.
- Add cup of ice to pitcher and stir well.
- Use a lemon slice to wet the edge of a martini glass. Rim the edge with sugar. I typically put a layer of sugar on a saucer and dip the top edge in it.
- Add ice to the glass and fill 2/3 with lemonade.
- Add 1/2 to a full shot of vodka, stir. Enjoy!
NOTE: This is also a delightful drink without the vodka if serving to non drinkers or children!

Ok, I just made this, and it is a huge hit!! Poppa Trix and I are officially addicted.
Slacker that I am (not really I have been insanely busy!) I am just getting to read this. It is BEAUTIFUL. What a fabulous drink. Guess what I am going to make later this afternoon? Seriously, you are speaking my language here (and would it be wrong to double the vodka? lol)
I don’t think it would be wrong to double the vodka but think I need to be there for your taste test! Hope you enjoy as much as I do/did!
Your blog is making my mouth water. This martini looks absolutely beautiful, and although I don’t drink often, I could never pass up one of these stunning drinks. I love lavender and I imagine it is divine when paired with sweet and tangy lemondade.
The good news is that this is also perfect for non drinkers; the lavender lemonade alone is fabulous; the vodka a smooth addition for someone wanting a cocktail but absolutely not necessary!
I saw this on Facebook from a posting by Foodblogs and just had to see what it was all about. I thought about buying a lavender plant over the weekend but didn’t. Know I will go back and pick one up. This looks and sounds like such a wonderful cocktail. You have a beautiful blog. So glad I found you.
Danielle, it’s one of my favorite plants. I’m in Denver and it seems to thrive here. When it’s in bloom it’s beautiful so it’s a great herb. Plant, herb and scent…love them all! And thank you for your kind comment; glad you found me!
I absolutely love this cocktail! I have a bunch of lavender growing in our urban garden (outside our front stoop) and I haven’t found much to do with it.
But that’s all changed with this fantastic recipe!
I told ya…such a wonderful and unexpected surprise. First time ever I’ve harvested most of my lavender buds. Just did a lavender version of shortcake too…hoping to post about both herbacious versions soon!
Gorgeous! I’ve been hearing a lot about lavender infused vodka lately. I really must give it a try. Your blog is fantastic! I’m so glad I stumbled onto it today.
I’m glad you found me/it…and vice versa! Welcome.
Lavender plant…$4.00
Bottle of vodka…$20.00
Best summer drink ever…..Priceless
This photograph looks so refreshing and cool.
Very true…now for a lemon tree. Oh yea, I’m in CO; maybe not!
Beautiful looking drink Barb! I’ve missed some of your posts…RSS Feed stopped working! So I’ve subscribed by email. Got some catching up to do.
I’ve missed you; thought you must have gone on a LONG vacation; glad you’re back and the drink is to die for.
That looks amazing. I could go for one (or four) about now.
Another fabulously addicting sipper Barb – and we’ve wanted to plant lavender for a couple of years now; haven’t done it yet but now? I’m thinking it would be a good time to plant some! Grateful I’m not your neighbor – I’d need a 12-step program!
Oooh if I lived closer. Glad your daughter found this. Do wish lavender grew here. I carried a plant down from our trip to the Himalayas, but it didn’t survive the plains! I wept when it died. Am so envious of yours. Are you close to Texas? {Pardon my American geography}. My Mum is there for a couple of weeks.
xo
LOVE the photos! I am not a big drinker, but this sounds delish!!!
Very refreshing and creative cocktail. I haven’t worked much with lavender because Im afraid to go overkill with it. But you seem to have it down!
Absolutely stunning! I’m not normally a big martini person, but I’m sure I’d love this. Even without the vodka, I think it would make a very refreshing and sophisticated lemonade!
Hey Barb! Thanks so much for swinging by the RGB today! I haven’t mentioned this yet, but I carried a bouquet of lavender from the backyard for the big day. It’s drying out on the fireplace mantle right now.
Had you posted this a couple days sooner, I probably would have made this martini to go with my post-nuptial picnic!!!
It looks LOVELY, and so applicable to the RGB. Bookmarking this as a future idea for the Bistro. ;-)

Aw, thanks for sharing Kim…I love the stuff and what a lovely remembrance. You could sip this at your anniversary. Or next week!
Congrats again!
Ever since I tried a lavender creme brulee at this great restaurant I have been hooked on lavender infused dishes. This drink sounds too fabulous to be true! I am most definitely going to try this! You daughter had a great idea! Maybe I’ll make these to share with my mom!
Check out the pizza mentioned in the post too. So different and it was great. Just a bit of lavender honey at the end but loved it. Not a manly dish…great to share both with your mom.
Although I am not much of an alcohol person, I can imagine this being very refreshing.. going to pass this on to some of my martini loving friends!
delicious!!!! oooh… this just sounds so tasty… and dangerous! one could never be enough!
